 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Museum is offering free general admission in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 15, thanks to sponsorship from Greylock Federal Credit Union. The Academy Award-winning film Selma will be screened from 2 PM – 4 PM. The museum will be open 10 AM – 5 PM. "Dr. King's fight for the dignity and rights of people everywhere has continued to inspire us to work toward achieving an equitable and just world. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield Public Schools will host community engagement sessions to discuss enrollment projections, new grade span configurations, and a possible new building project. The meetings will be held on Thursday Jan. 18 at 6 pm at Williams Elementary School and Thursday Jan 25 at 5:30 pm at Conte Community School. The goal of the meetings is to continue building understanding of the study and engage the public on the findings with conversation on enrollment projections, potential new grade span configurations, a possible statement of interest for a new school building on the Westside. BOSTON, Mass. — The state awarded the Housatonic Valley Association $33,500 to benefit the Berkshire Clean, Cold, Connected Restoration Partnership. The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced the award of $982,360 in grants to ecological restoration projects throughout Massachusetts by the Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) Division of Ecological Restoration (DER). PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council started this term with a divisive vote on a budget suggestion.
A petition from Councilor at Large Kathy Amuso on Tuesday requesting the presentation of a budget that is "close to level-funded" was approved 7-4 with President Peter White, Councilors at Large Alisa Costa and Earl Persip III, and Ward 7 Councilor Rhonda Serre voting in opposition.
Amuso explained that during her previous terms on the School Committee and the council, approving the budget was always the worst meeting. She is stunned by tax rate increases and wants the city to take immediate action in preparation for the fiscal 2025 budget season.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC), which was selected last year to participate in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP)'s Mission 18, has announced its project to be sent to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a microgravity research experiment. Entitled "The Effects of Microgravity on the Chromosomal Alignment on the Metaphase Plate in Onion Root Tip Cells," the project was researched and devised by BCC students William Garrity, Erica Langnickel and Anastasiya Bolotova. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city now has $8 million in PCB pollution settlement funds to support economic development.
The City Council on Tuesday accepted the payment of $8,000,000 from General Electric Corp. per the Rest of River settlement agreement on the cleanup of the Housatonic River. The funds will be put into the city's Economic Development Fund which supports growing businesses in the community.
Mayor Peter Marchetti explained that the cleanup has been making its way south for years.

 : police have released the names of the three Pittsfield men involved in Tuesday's accident. Anthony W. Nichols, 40, who was driving the truck, was transferred to Baystate Medical Center in serious condition. The other two passengers are at BMC: Gregory Prince, 54, is listed in fair condition and Robert O'Bert, 60, is in good condition. The accident remains under investigation. The council set a pole hearing for National Grid for Jan. 23. : Around 3:40 p.m., Pittsfield Police, County Ambulance, and Action Ambulance responded to the area of 241 South St. for a reported single motor vehicle crash.
