Pittsfield Housing Trust Looks to Involvement with CPA ProcessBy Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Affordable Housing Trust will offer its expertise for Community Preservation Act applications related to housing.
The panel agreed at its December meeting that it would make recommendations or designate CPA funds for these types of projects. For fiscal 2024, there are three community housing applications including the trust's request for $150,000.
When the AHT was created, this was thought to be one of its functions.

As we close out 2023, stocks continue to inch higher. The traditional rally encompassing the last five days after Christmas into the first two days of the New Year is on track. PEDA Awards $9.8M Bid for Redevelopment of Site 9By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A contract has been awarded for the redevelopment of Site 9 with an expected completion date in fall 2024.
On Friday, the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority approved William J Keller & Sons Construction's $9.8 million bid. The company was chosen over JH Maxymillian Inc.'s $11.2 million bid due to its lower price.
The Castleton-On-Hudson, N.Y., company plans to have the rough surface ready for development in October and will start in mid-January.
"This is one of the most exciting milestones to happen to PEDA since I've been here," Chair Michael Matthews said.

Peter Marchetti will be sworn in to a four-year term as the new mayor of Pittsfield on Jan. 2. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city will inaugurate a new mayor and swear in city councilors on Tuesday morning at City Hall.
Peter Marchetti will be sworn in for a four-year term as mayor, replacing Mayor Linda Tyer who did not seek a third term. BOSTON – The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) issued draft regulations to strengthen wetlands and stormwater resilience by providing flood control and preventing storm damage to shorelines and infrastructure from the impacts of climate change. The proposed regulations will help protect areas vulnerable to sea-level rise and storm surge, promote nature-based solutions to flooding, streamline certain permitting processes, and use updated precipitation data to inform decision-making. The regulations are proposed under the Wetlands Protection Act and the Massachusetts Public Waterfront Act. MassDEP will accept comments on the draft regulations

The sled library would hold up to about 20 sleds. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Clapp Park will soon have a community-led sled library to spread the joy of winter activities.
Last week, the Parks Commission granted resident Lindsey Marion permission to place a free sled box near the scoreboard at the park. It will hold a collection of sleds that visitors can borrow and use on the property's impressive hill while fostering community engagement.
Now, the city just needs snow.
