The day was clear and warm, perfect for gathering on the lawn at the North Adams Public Library. Dozens of people watched the astronomical show from blankets and lawn chairs. The library handed out about 650 eclipse glasses leading up to the event. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The partial solar eclipse was seen and heard in the city as people turned out to experience the celestial event in various locations. It lasted nearly 2 1/2 hours and Berkshire County had a peak of 95 percent coverage at 3:27 p.m., when it appeared to be sundown and there was a chill in the air from the lack of light. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The First Fridays at Five events will blend arts and entertainment, shopping, and community engagement and planners hope it expands with time. Mayor Peter Marchetti released details on Friday of the new event that combines the beloved Third Thursdays and the First Fridays Artswalks. It is a collaboration between the city, Downtown Pittsfield, Inc., and the Downtown Pittsfield Cultural Association with the first occurring on May 3. The Cable Advisory Committee heard PCTV’s ascertainment report on Thursday ahead of contract negotiations with Charter Spectrum. The panel will soon review a draft request for a proposal for the cable company. Arrest Warrant Issued in Pownal, Vt., Homicide09:39AM / Sunday, April 07, 2024 | | POWNAL, Vt. — The Vermont State Police Thursday announced they have obtained an arrest warrant for a Massachusetts man on a murder charge arising from a fatal stabbing Feb. 6 in Pownal. The suspect is identified as Elizah Coppedge, 18, of Chicopee, police said. He faces a charge of second-degree murder in the killing of Casey Gras, 36, of Bennington. A Vermont Superior Court judge in Bennington County signed the warrant last week and ordered that Coppedge be held without bail upon his arrest.
