With New Owners, Teddy's Pizza is Business as Usual

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — One of the city's oldest eateries has changed hands to another local family but remains open and unchanged.

Teddy's Pizza Restaurant on East Street has been purchased by Mike Manning, who is continuing its 50-year legacy as the long-loved pizzeria and family restaurant everyone knows.

"I grew up eating lunch here while at Pittsfield High and that's kind of like a generational thing," he explained. "Everybody comes here, and here we are and we decided to give it a go."

One Incumbent Ousted in Pittsfield Council Election

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — One incumbent was ousted in the City Council election and there will be multiple new faces on the council come January.

Many councilors-elect are excited about the slate that was voted in on Tuesday night. Unofficial results show a 31.11 percent turnout, compared to the 2019 election's 42.4 percent turnout.

A number of them attended Mayor-elect Peter Marchetti's party at the Berkshire Hills County Club.

Rhonda Serre secured representation of Ward 7 with 674 votes, unseating incumbent Anthony Maffuccio who had 430 votes.

Pittsfield General Election Includes All Positions

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Voters will elect a mayor, city clerk, City Council, and School Committee tomorrow.

Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and there are races in all but three wards — Wards 1, 4 and 5 — and School Committee. There is also one non-binding ballot question asking if there should be a residency requirement for the police chief, fire chief, and public services manager.

Peter Marchetti, the current City Council president, and John Krol, a former councilor, are running to replace Mayor Linda Tyer in the corner office.

Krol has worked in communications, including for former Mayor James Ruberto, and has owned a media business for a decade. He has

BCC to Hold Virtual Information Sessions on Early College Program

PCTV Gets Closed Captioning on Cable After Issuing Complaint

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After some advocacy from local and federal entities, Pittsfield Community Television has added closed captioning for cable viewers.

The organization implemented closed captioning for certain programs about a year ago but came to a roadblock when the captioning was coming through on streaming but not through cable boxes. It was restored after a complaint reached the hands of the Federal Communications Commission.

Members of the Cable Advisory Committee agreed that this is a "great thing" as it provides better access to people who are hard of hearing and people who prefer to have the sound off.

BRTA Holding Public Sessions for More Bus Service

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) is proposing to add new evening bus service to additional weekday and Saturday fixed routes.    At the October 26, 2023 meeting, the BRTA Advisory Board voted to proceed with a public comment period to gather customer feedback on the proposed additional service. Pittsfield Council Holds Special Meeting for Audit Review

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A special City Council meeting was called on Thursday to discuss the fiscal year 2022 audits.   It was found that the city over-reported more than $250,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, which alarmed some councilors and members of the public.   "We found that you over-reported two hundred something thousand expenditures between two quarters," Tom Scanlon of Scanlon and Associates explained. "It was with the Ashley Water Treatment Plant, I believe."   The facility's chemical storage building was allocated $4.6 million and is supposed to be completed this season.  It is included in the infrastructure category of

Governor Appoints President of Commonwealth Corporation

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced the appointment of Molly Jacobson as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonwealth Corporation.    Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) Secretary Lauren Jones serves as Chair of the Commonwealth Corporation Board of Directors, which voted unanimously to appoint Jacobson at its Board meeting earlier this month. NBSA, Saboteurs Win Fall League Titles

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Northern Berkshire Sports Academy and the Saboteurs Sunday took home the A and B Division titles in the NBSA Fall Basketball League.   Chris Brown scored the final four points of the game at the foul line to give NBSA a 71-68 win over Giardina and Bressett PC in the A Division final at Drury High School.   Brown, who went 12-for-13 at the line in the game, finished with a team-high 28 points in the win.   Scott McGuire scored 15 points, including 11 in the first half, when NBSA built a 41-37 lead.   It then opened the second half on a 12-4 run that ended in a Khalil Paul 3-pointer to push the lead to 53-41.   But Hayden Bird scored in the

State Shelter System Approaches Capacity Limit

BOSTON — Emergency Assistance Director Lt. General Scott Rice provided an update on next steps for the state's emergency family shelter system as it approaches its capacity limit.

Earlier this month, Governor Maura Healey announced that the state does not have enough shelter space, service providers or funding to safely expand beyond 7,500 families. As of Monday, Oct. 30, there are 7,319 families in emergency shelter.
