BOSTON — Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper announced the appointment of Paul Jahnige as the first Director of the Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation (MOOR). The EEA established the Office in December 2022 to elevate and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts and the associated benefits to the economy, health, environment, and quality of life. Jahnige will work alongside state agencies, including the Department of Fish and Game (DFG), the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the Massachusetts Marketing Partnership (MMP), and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT). The financial markets were expecting a lot of good news out of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting this week. Investors were betting that not only would the Fed pause, but possibly announce an end of interest rate hikes altogether. Some even expected a timetable for future rate cuts that would be sooner than later. The market was right on the pause in interest rate hikes. The U.S. central bank decided not to hike the Fed funds rate but that was about the extent of the good news. Pittsfield to Unveil Plaque for Buddy Pellerin Ballfield By Brittany Polito, iBerkshires Staff

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A commemorative plaque will officially designate the Clapp Park ballfield for former coach George "Buddy" Pellerin.
The name change was approved about seven years ago after Pellerin passed away at the age of 77. The plaque's set be unveiled at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. "Chairman [Cliff] Nilan has been involved with this effort to site a permanent plaque at the Buddy Pellerin Field which is of course the main baseball field and Clapp Park where Buddy Pellerin coached and played for many, many years," Park, Open Space and Natural Resource Program Manager James McGrath explained to the Parks Commission on Monday.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development Recreation Program announces a Fall Foliage Community Bike Ride on Saturday, Oct. 14 on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. Participants are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. at the Crane Avenue parking lot. The bike ride will start at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring their own bicycles and helmets are required for all riders. The route will include 4 miles, on the paved trail, to Whitney's Farm Market for a stop. The group will then travel back 4 miles, ending at the Crane Avenue parking lot. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Monday, Sept. 25 marks the start of phase three for the fall flushing schedule of the City of Pittsfield's water system. Water mains throughout the city will be flushed through hydrants over the next several weeks to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products. Mains will be flushed Monday through Friday each week, except holidays, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. This phase of flushing is expected to occur between Sept. 25 through Oct. 3. DALTON, Mass. — The library trustees earlier this week voted for faster, better and more stable internet for patrons by upgrading its plan and its routers. The library's primary provider Crocker, through CW Mars (the Central and Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing consortium), will have the the new routers hooked up by Oct. 1. "The internet is an important service for the library," Treasurer Max Ehrlich said. The town has been discussing sidewalk repairs with residents since before the last town meeting where it was approved to add an additional $10,000 to the sidewalk repair budget.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city expended $2.7 million in American Rescue Plan Act monies in the second quarter of 2023 with over half spent on addressing negative economic impacts of COVID-19.
Pittsfield received the funds nearly two years ago and has expended more than $12 million of the nearly $41 million award.
"Through the end of June, we have reported a total of $12,400,000 in funds of use, which represents about 30 percent of our overall award today. Again, remember we can spend this money through the end of calendar year 2026," ARPA co-manager Deanna Ruffer reported to the City Council last week.
