PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Seventeen Pittsfield Police officers can be found in the state's Peace Officer Training Standards Commission's misconduct database with allegations ranging from neglect of duty to racial bias and associating with known criminals. Some of the incidents date back more than a decade.
"The POST Commission Report is one step towards increasing transparency between policing and communities. Pittsfield has, and will continue, to provide information to the POST Commission," Mayor Linda Tyer said in response to a request for comment.

Celia Armstrong started as a substitute and fell in love with the job. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The August Teacher of the Month is 18 Degrees prekindergarten teacher Celia Armstrong. The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next nine months in partnership with Berkshire Community College. Armstrong has been working in the education field for the last four years, getting her start as a substitute at 18 Degrees. She was looking for a position that would provide flexible hours while she attended Berkshire Community College and was referred to 18 Degrees by a friend.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announced the addition of eight new staff members, a promotion and a title change. New staff Sheaden Callahan joins the BCC SUCCESS team as Clerk IV. She graduated from MCLA with a bachelor's degree in psychology and has resided in the area since then. Previously, she was a registration and reception assistant for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at BCC. As the clerk for the SUCCESS department, Callahan connects students to campus resources such as academic coaching, workshops and visits to four-year schools. BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll administration announced the opening of the next round of grant funding opportunities for cities and towns through the Community Compact program, making resources available for municipalities to support best practices, information technology regionalization and municipal fiber. The construction crew and officials wait for the first vehicle to pass over the completed span. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Community members and officials celebrated the opening of the Holmes Road bridge on Friday afternoon as the first cars passed over the finally completed span.
After a more than 60-day shutdown, the structure was finished on schedule and returned to two lanes for the first time in four years.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — A new mural remembering the county's servicemen killed in action in Vietnam, "Lest We Forget 1961-1975," will be unveiled on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. This event had been postponed from July 7 because of engineering requirements. The unveiling is being done by the city of Pittsfield in partnership with Vietnam Veterans of America James E. Callahan Berkshire County Chapter 65. The mural was painted by Ghi Sign Co. off Canaan, Conn., on the north side of the Intertek Building located at 50 Pearl St. and references the original from 1991.  DALTON, Mass. — The public library started the search for a new director during its meeting on Wednesday night. Library director Robert DiFazio's last day was Friday, Aug. 25. He gave notice four weeks ago. Although DiFazio said loved working at the library, when a position at Wahconah Regional High School's library opened he jumped at the opportunity because the schedule better aligns with his personal life.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Deliberations about artificial turf versus natural grass at Wahconah Park will go on the back burner for now as efforts are focused on the grandstand.
Chair Earl Persip III said the Wahconah Park Restoration Committee got lost in "turf talk" for too long when it was not ready for the conversation.
"I think we let it get a little out of control," he said at Thursday's meeting.
"If you remember, our task was to come up with a grandstand replacement or renovation plan. It really didn't speak of the field. I am glad we did have that conversation but I think the natural grass versus a turf field is a phase two part of this overall
