Fitch Hoose House Museum in Need of a Paint JobBy Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Fitch-Hoose House museum is in need of a paint job. Historical Commission co-Chair Louisa M. Horth said at Wednesday's meeting that the paint is starting to peel and weather, and would need to be repainted this year or next year. Commissioners are unsure how much the project would cost but will approach Town Manager Thomas Hutcheson to inquire on the best way to get funding for the project. In 2014, the Historical Commission got a grant from the "Promoting Community Development and Tourism in Central and Western Massachusetts" program in the amount of $180,000 grant to restore the 1840s-era house. BOSTON — Governor Maura T. Healey signed a supplemental budget that makes $20 million available to support Massachusetts farms that have been impacted by severe weather in 2023. The fund will be administered by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and the Executive Office of Administration and Finance. The administration is working to stand up a grant program to get relief out as soon as possible.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Athenaeum is establishing a Teen Advisory Board to facilitate the involvement of young residents in their community.
The panel of 13- to 18-year-old volunteers will take the lead on generating ideas, implementing programs, and promoting youth library services. Meetings will begin in September.
Currently in the planning stages, the board was prioritized in the library's strategic plan. Young Adult Librarian Vanessa Justice, who has been at the library for about a month, found it an important item to address.

DALTON, Mass. — A discussion was introduced on enacting conflicts of interest policies for all committees and boards during the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on Tuesday night. The conversation was following the announcement that the town's insurer, Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, inquired whether the board had specific written policies and procedures in place to help avoid conflicts of interest.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Berkshire Pottery Tour which highlights potters in their studios. The Berkshire Pottery Tour was founded by a group of pottery friends who met at the Berkshire Art Center (then IS 183) in 2013. "Berkshire Pottery Tour offers a glimpse into each potter's creative process and an intimate time to understand the work behind the final product," said Lucie Castaldo, executive director of the Berkshire Art Center. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Animal Control Commission voted to euthanize two Dartmouth Street dogs after a man's encounter with them required surgery.
By a majority vote, the panel decided that two pit bulls owned by Matthew Jacobs are dangerous and should be put down to prevent further incidents.
Not much is known about the dogs, as the owner did not attend the meeting, and to the commission's knowledge they do not have a record. The decision was based on the severity of the allegations.
Joseph Czop of Brighton Avenue alleged that the dogs attacked him and his coonhound Lucy after getting away from their owner and cost him thousands of dollars in medical bills. He came
