PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Price Chopper/Market 32, in collaboration with trade partner Freihofer's Baking Co., raised more than $18,000 to benefit the Parkinson's Foundation in a Spring 2024 fundraising program. During the promotion, for every purchase of select Freihofer's products, Price Chopper/Market 32 and Freihofer's each donated $0.05 to the Parkinson's Foundation. The Parkinson's Foundation helps people with Parkinson's disease, a progressive, neurodegenerative brain disorder that affects the nervous system, by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler and Early Education and Care Commissioner Amy Kershaw host a listening session on early child care at BCC on Wednesday. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Local child-care providers called for mental health support and equitable pay at a listening session with state officials this week. "We don't provide resources for our educators so that they have a strength in the classroom. They're putting out fires constantly. How are they educating? How are they teaching?" said Elise Weller, senior director of child care services at 18 Degrees.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Chapter of UNICO National held its scholarship awards ceremony on July 23 at the Italian American Club. Since 1987 UNCO has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to students from Berkshire County high schools. The UNICO Scholarship Committee, chaired by Julia Salatino, awarded $19,000 in scholarships this year to local high school graduates who are continuing their postsecondary education. Scholarship Recipients Alexandra Bills of Wahconah Regional High School received the the Gloria Powers Scholarship.  DALTON, Mass. — Electric vehicle users will soon have another charging option at the Community Recreation Association. The hardware for the level 2 station was installed earlier this month but has not yet been connected. Eversource will be inspecting the station this week, and once that is complete, the chargers should be energized within three to four weeks, Eversource spokesperson Priscilla Ress said. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) announced it has named 391 students to the spring 2024 dean's list. To be eligible for the dean's list, students must achieve a GPA of 3.750 to 4.000 to earn high honors, while students with a GPA of 3.250 to 3.749 earn an honors designation. All dean's list students must be matriculated in a certificate or degree program; complete a minimum of six traditionally graded credit hours, and achieve grades of C or higher in all classes during a semester of one academic year.
