Dalton Historical Commission Finds Cheaper Fireproof Cabinet By Sabrina Damms, iBerkshires Staff

DALTON, Mass. — The Historical Commission voted to purchase a used four-drawer fireproof cabinet from BBE Office Interiors during its meeting last week. Commissioner Thomas Synder said BBE had two four-drawer fireproof cabinets for $800 a piece. The commission decided to only purchase one of the cabinets, which is projected to cost about $1,200 including delivery because of the weight of the cabinet and its location on the second floor. Snyder said Town Accountant Sandra Albano had informed him that the town ordinarily purchases its fireproof cabinets from Staples and quoted the cost for a two-drawer for about $2,000. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Pittsfield has a fourth mayoral candidate and it's another member of the City Council.
Councilor at Large Karen Kalinowksy has taken out papers for mayor. She joins the council's current president, Peter Marchetti, former councilor John Krol, and former marketing director of Krofta Engineering Craig Gaetani in taking out nomination papers. Marchetti is the only candidate to have their signatures certified.
Kalinowksy worked with the Pittsfield Police Department for more than 30 years and was a student resource officer at Reid Middle School for 13 of them.
After retiring, she ran in Pittsfield's 2019 mayoral race but lost in the four-way preliminary

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — School officials requested extra police presence at Pittsfield High School on Wednesday and Thursday after a note was left in the building. The high school was in a "hold in passing" for less than an hour Wednesday morning because of a note left by the apparent intruder the previous day.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Christian Center plans to demolish two deteriorated buildings on its property to expand its footprint for increased community service. On Monday, the Historical Commission approved the demolition of 183-185 Robbins Ave. and 187-191 Robbins Ave., which are said to be beyond rehabilitation.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City Council put a controversial petition to rest on Tuesday, but it may come back from the dead.
Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick's proposed charter modifications that impose a minimum 30-year age requirement on School Committee candidates and a one-year "cooling off" period for elected officials.
Kronick reported that, given the counter-arguments, he will be resubmitting with improvements.

 PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mayoral candidates Peter Marchetti and John Krol discussed mental health needs, policing, schools, and positively marketing the city during the first debate campaign season hosted by local blog Planet Valenti last week.
Krol, a former City Council vice president, and Marchetti, current City Council president, kept the conversation focused on the issues. Both "cheerleaders" of Pittsfield, their campaign styles were described as a difference of personality.
