The foundation has been holding this event since its establishment seven years ago in honor of Liann Bordeau-Buck, who died following complications from a Cesarean section following the birth of her only child. Lanesborough Connector Road Closures for Repaving04:29PM / Sunday, September 03, 2023 | | LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Connector Road (Mall Road) will be closed to through traffic for several days in September for milling and resurfacing. The byway between Route 7 and Route 8 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5; Wednesday, Sept. 6, and Thursday, Sept. 7; and again from Monday, Sept. 11, to Wednesday, Sept. 13. Berkshire Athenaeum Announces 2023 Short Story Contest Winners02:23PM / Sunday, September 03, 2023 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, and the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum announced the winners of the 45th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Children and the 26th Annual Short Story Writing Contest for Young Adults. Entries were combined into four age categories with a total of 31 submissions. A committee of judges read through the submissions and rated the entries on originality, appeal, writing style, and artwork, if applicable. Berkshire Health Systems Announces Paving at BMC Main Entrance 10:15AM / Sunday, September 03, 2023 | | PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Health Systems (BHS) announced blacktop removal and paving at the main entrance of Berkshire Medical Center as part of the ongoing mechanical infrastructure work at the neighboring Medical Arts Complex (MAC). On Tuesday, Sept. 5, contractors will remove blacktop from the northbound lane of the main driveway entrance to the hospital at 725 North Street. Traffic will move to the southbound lane at various points during the day. Paving will take place on Wednesday, September 6, and similar traffic restrictions will apply. For the last few days Berkshire United Way and its partners, Greylock Federal Credit Union, Lenco Armored Vehicles, and Kiwanis Club of South County, have been dropping the supplies off at the schools. Director of Volunteer Engagement Brenda Petell said the cost of going back to school is expensive. From school clothes to haircuts, to materials, the cost adds up and is burdensome for some families, she said. BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), through its Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program, announced the launch of the 2023-2024 Signs and Lines Program and Infrastructure Funding Program grant opportunities. Both programs seek to provide funding though a competitive application process to help facilitate the development of construction projects in areas immediately surrounding public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the Commonwealth. PermitEyes 20/20 is a modular, cloud-based system which allows municipalities to electronically receive applications, collect electronic payments, track inspections, and issue permits. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Candidates in the preliminary election will pitch their ideas during live debates hosted by Pittsfield Community Television in partnership with iBerkshires on Tuesday. Debates will be held on Sept. 5 at the Berkshire Athenaeum beginning at 5 p.m. with Ward 2 followed by Ward 7 at 6 p.m. and the mayoral debate at 7 p.m. These races will be trimmed on Sept. 19 in preparation for the general election on Nov. 7. The mayoral debate will feature Peter Marchetti, John Krol, and Karen Kalinowsky. The three are running to replace Mayor Linda Tyer, who is not seeking re-election.
