DALTON, Mass. — The Board of Water Commissioners is meeting in executive session at 4 p.m. on Monday to discuss an employee matter not dealing with professional competence. Fire Chief James Peltier was placed on administrative leave earlier this month; he did not respond to a request for comment over the weekend but had confirmed to The Berkshire Eagle that Monday's meeting was about him. Board Chair James Driscoll confirmed the chief had been placed on leave but said he could not comment further. Peltier has been chief since 2021. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield's Public Library, invites members of the city's Spanish speaking population to browse and borrow from the library's new Spanish Bookshelf. The library has just added more than 75 Spanish titles for adults, building on a group of over 150 Spanish titles for children. These new books include something for many reader interests: general fiction, horror, historical fiction, magical realism, mystery & thriller.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mill Town Capital is requesting a 10-year tax increment financing agreement for the redevelopment of the former Berkshire West into Bousquet Sport. On Tuesday, the City Council will be presented with a TIF that is expected to save the investment firm about $215,000 in real estate taxes over a decade, starting at 100 percent in fiscal 2025 and decreasing to 10 percent by fiscal 2034. "Bousquet Sport, located at 100 Dan Fox Drive in Pittsfield, will feature a multi-purpose sports facility that will include six pickleball courts, new locker rooms, cardio and fitness equipment," Mayor Linda Tyer wrote in an order.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Williamstown's Alex White was the first runner across the finish line at Sunday's MountainOne Steel Rail Marathon on the Ashuwilticook Trail. White maintained a 6 minute, 26 second per mile pace over the 26.2 mile course from Pittsfield to Adams and back. He reached the finish line in 2:48.42.41 to finish 5-1/2 minutes ahead of the rest of the other 72 runners who finished the event's marathon division. The fastest finisher in the marathon was Stephen Gulley of Billingham, the event's lone hand pedaler, who finished in 2:20:05.36. BOSTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending more than $4 million to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reimburse the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for the cost of disinfecting its facilities to continue operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — High school teams participating in the General Dynamics STEM Competition demonstrated their designs for a zipline mail delivery system on Friday, May 12. A Hoosac Valley team took second place and a PHS team took third. The students had 5 weeks to put together a mail carrier that rides along ziplines that can deliver packages to predetermined destinations. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Roots Rising wants to make Springside Park its home base after years of being a pop-up organization.
On Tuesday, the agricultural nonprofit presented plans for its first location to the Parks Commission.
"We are excited because the farm will offer a lot more opportunities for programmatic growth," Executive Director and Co-Founder Jessica Vecchia said.
"We will be able to serve a lot more teenagers and more individuals in our community with the farm."

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On the evening of Wednesday, May 17 Pittsfield Police responded to a 911 call for a reported attempted kidnapping. According to reports, Sharon Kranich approached a mother and her two children (a toddler and a baby)on North Street and immediately grabbed and assaulted the toddler. The mother called 911. While on the phone with 911, the defendant then attempted to take the toddler and baby away from the mother. Kranich moved ten to fifteen feet down the street with the children at which point the mother was able to secure both children back in her own custody. Kranich fled into a building.
