PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield Conservation Commission, in partnership with Lyon Aviation, has announced that they will sponsor a free Fishing Derby for youth 14 and under on Saturday, May 20 at the Wild Acres Conservation Area. The event will be held rain or shine. Volunteer support will be provided by the Onota Fishing Club to assist with dressing fish, providing fishing tips and techniques, baiting, etc. The derby will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until 12:30 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to those who catch the largest fish (length & weight); trophies will be awarded at 12:00 p.m. Bait will be provided.  DALTON, Mass. — The Dalton Police and Fire Departments set up a mock staged accident on the lawn of Wahconah Regional High School on Wednesday morning to remind students to celebrate safely and the dangers of impaired driving. The goal of the staging was to make the high schoolers think about the consequences of driving while impaired. The mock car was provided by Sayers' Auto Wrecking of Lanesborough. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — On Monday, May 15 Eric S. Lefavour, age 39 of Pittsfield, pleaded guilty to 8 charges including violating an abuse prevention order; breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony; burning a motor vehicle; and assault and battery to intimidate a victim. Lefavour was sentenced by Judge Flannery to 3 years in the House of Corrections and 3 years probation. The defendant was held as a danger in the district court, he was held as a danger in the Superior Court and continued to be held as a danger until trial against his request for release. Missing Pittsfield Man's Remains Found Staff Reports ,

PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Police found human remains in the Morning Drive area that were identified as 69-year-old Lee Walter Meisenheimer who had been missing since July 2022. Officers responded to the Morningview Drive area on Sunday at approximately 6:25 p.m. A resident there called after the discovery of apparent human remains and clothing in a wooded area behind a yard. Responding officers confirmed the presence of human remains and contacted personnel from the State Medical Examiner's Office. A subsequent autopsy positively identified the remains as Meisenheimer, and extended family members were notified. At this time there is no evidence to suggest foul play, 0 Comments

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Affordable chicken permitting is reaching its final stretch. On Tuesday, the Community Development Board unanimously supported a zoning amendment to permit six fowl through a $25 license. It takes the process out of the Zoning Board of Appeals' purview, which cost more than $500, and requires a license similar to that of a dog.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The 2023 municipal election is heating up with multiple certified candidates and a returning face in Ward 2.
Current Ward 2 Councilor Charles Kronick has taken out papers for re-election and Hot Dog Ranch owner Craig Benoit has withdrawn his papers to run in that ward. Benoit is now only running for an at-large seat and his signatures have been certified.
Kronick secured the seat for Ward 2 in 2021 and is vocal in the Council Chambers, often disagreeing with his colleagues when voting on items. He strongly believes in saving taxpayer money through the city budget.
Kronick caused a stir during last year's budget season, first in his opposition to the Office
