PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Herberg Middle School will be closed on Tuesday because of heating and electrical issues. Heating problems caused an early dismissal on Monday. It was discovered that the boilers were not functioning properly early Monday and around 8 a.m., the school was notified of electrical and boiler issues that could not be rectified. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After a standoff, a city man was arrested and charged for allegedly threatening and striking two people with a handgun over the weekend. Solomon Jones III, 32, of Pittsfield has been charged with assault and battery, threat to commit a crime, and carrying a firearm and ammunition without a license. Police were dispatched to a multi-family unit at 10 Francis Ave. at about 7:40 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a person with a firearm. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— If local approval is secured in the fall, the district will have 2 1/2 years to complete a feasibility study for the Crosby/Conte school project. The eligibility period for Massachusetts School Building Authority funding begins on Feb. 3 and will conclude on Oct. 31 with a vote from the City Council. In that time, a number of boxes have to be checked off including enrollment studies and maintenance and capital planning. Last week, the School Building Needs Commission accepted MSBA's letter of invitation for the eligibility period and a 270-day eligibility module. Mass DOR: December Revenue Collections Total $4.345 B03:32PM / Sunday, January 12, 2025 | | BOSTON — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder announced that preliminary revenue collections for December totaled $4.345 billion, $573 million or 15.2 percent more than actual collections in December 2023, and $267 million or 6.5 percent above benchmark. PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Trash talk is back on Tuesday's City Council agenda with a proposed five-year extension for recycling services and a presentation on the new toter system. Mayor Peter Marchetti has brought forward a year contract beginning on July 1 with the Department of Environmental Protection and WM Recycle America, LLC for processing the city's recyclables. Pittsfield's current contract with the DEP for recycling at the Springfield Material Recycling Facility expires on June 30.
