Springtime Start Set for Bel Air Dam Removal

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Bel Air Dam removal won't be an easy process but state officials promise it will be worth it.

About 50 people gathered at the Polish Falcon Club on Wednesday to hear details about the $20 million endeavor funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2025 and conclude at the end of 2026.

State Fire Marshal: Brush Fire Warning

STOW, Mass.—With 47 active brush fires reported statewide, local and state officials are urging residents to use extra caution with any open flame or other heat source outdoors.

Representatives from the Executive Office of Public Safety & Security, Department of Conservation & Recreation, Department of Fire Services, Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts reminded residents that the ongoing weather conditions make dry leaves, dead vegetation, and other fuels extremely receptive to ignition.

Pittsfield Community Bike Ride

PITTSFIELD, Mass. The City of Pittsfield's Department of Community Development Recreation Program, in partnership with the Berkshire Pike Path Council, announced a Community Bike Ride on Saturday, November 2 on the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail.   Participants are asked to arrive by 10:45 a.m. at the Crane Avenue parking lot. The bike ride will start at 11 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring their own bicycles and helmets are required for all riders.   The route will include 4 miles, on the paved trail, to Whitney's Farm Market for a stop. CBRSD MCAS Data Shows Value of the Interventionist Model

DALTON, Mass. — Based on recent MCAS scores, the Central Berkshire Regional School District has seen growth in many areas, but work still needs to be done.    Administrators explained at the last School Committee meeting that the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System scores showed students had made moderate progress toward targets.   The state sets targets based on the previous year's accountability reporting. The targets are on various metrics, including English language arts, math, science, chronic absenteeism, and more.    In 2024, the district met 37 percent more targets than it did in 2023, performing above the state in many areas, including

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Ghouls, goblins, and pop culture icons lined Tyler Street on Friday night for the city's annual Halloween Parade.

The "Spooky Hollywood" theme brought characters from "Ghostbusters," the "Wizard of Oz," and slasher icons. This was the 78th Halloween parade in the city and the last one led by Special Events Coordinator Maddy Brown, who will vacate the position next month.
