Weather Cooperates for Pittsfield 4th of July Parade

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The downtown corridor was alive with red, white, and blue as thousands gathered to watch the Fourth of July parade.

Mayor Peter Marchetti pointed to the pleasant Thursday morning weather — overcast with bouts of sunshine and in the 70s. The 2024 parade, themed "Red, White, Blue and YOU," featured more than 160 units.

"It is a really nice day in Pittsfield and the weather looks like it's going to cooperate and we're ready for a parade," he said before the 10 a.m. kickoff.

It is a bittersweet day for Marchetti, as he will be stepping down as parade leader

PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Hector Reyes-Colon drove in four runs Wednesday to lead the Pittsfield 10-year-old All-Stars to their third run-rule win in pool play in the Don Gleason District 1 Little League Tournament.   The victory sends Pittsfield (3-0) into the best-of-three championship series that gets underway on Saturday afternoon when Great Barrington visits Deming Park. Pittsfield Historical Panels OKs Fenn St. Demo, Welcomes City Planner

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Historical Commission welcomed the new city planner and approved the demolition of a Fenn Street home formerly owned by a well-loved volunteer.

Haddad dealerships purchased the property from Robert Presutti's family after he died in 2023 and plans to demolish it for further parking and vehicle storage.  

"The idea is to renovate the Haddad Hyundai dealership building at 689 East St. and as part of that renovation, they're proposing the demolition of a two-story house that is sort of situated on a small lot that they own between two others used for the dealerships," civil engineer Bryan Siter explained.

Dalton Fire District Navigates Future Fire Station

DALTON, Mass. — The Fire District is considering re-engaging the prospect of purchasing the former Dalton Garage, located at 385 Main St.   The district considered purchasing the building in 2022 because the fire station, located at 20 Flansburg Ave., is too small for its needs, especially with the addition of the ambulance service. However, the prospect was not fully explored and was pushed aside.    The idea was brought up again during the Fire District community meeting last week, and Thomas Irwin, a member of the town's Finance Committee, presented it to the Board of Water Commissioners during its Tuesday meeting.    The board voted to start exploring
