PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Bianchi-Barbarotta Foundation announced that the 28th Annual Golf Tournament, held at the Wyndhurst Golf Club, raised over $40,000. Each year, the foundation awards $5,000 in scholarships to local student-athletes pursuing higher education. This support helps them achieve their academic and athletic goals at colleges and universities. UPDATE: Pittsfield Police say the two individuals who were shot on Friday were treated at Berkshire Medical Center and are expected to survive. It is believed that both victims were shot by the same person who fled the scene on foot. Based on evidence collected to this point, police do not believe the Friday's shooting is related to Tuesday's in which a city man was killed. The suspect in that fatal incident has been arrested and charged with murder. Law enforcement officials are asking for the public's cooperation in this investigation as oftentimes it is instrumental in the investigation and prosecution of these cases. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Museum has opened its newest exhibit, "The Wild Indoors," by award-winning artist Julie Bell. The exhibit runs through Sept. 29 and combines some of the museum's collection of taxidermy animals with Bell's fantasy art and realistic painting of the wild animals from across the united states. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Onota Lake will be chemically treated with aquatic herbicides on Monday, June 17 to control invasive Eurasian watermilfoil. The lake will be closed to all water uses including swimming, fishing and boating on the day of treatment. These uses may resume on Tuesday morning, June 18. Use of the lake water for irrigation (watering lawns, gardens or plants of any kind) is prohibited for 8 days post treatment. Stocks hit an all-time high as macroeconomic data supported the view that the rate of inflation was falling, even while the economy continued to grow. However, the Fed said it wants to hold off on interest rate cuts until they get some more data. Both the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Producer Price Index (PPI) for May showed cooler inflation data. CPI came in at plus-3.3 percent down from 3.4 percent in April. Prices for some household items such as gasoline and bacon declined. The PPI went down 0.2 percent in May compared with market expectations of a 0.1 percent increase and after a rise of 0.5 percent in April.  EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- Ethan O'Donnell struck out 10 and allowed just one hit Thursday in leading the Post 68 Juniors to a 12-0 win over East Longmeadow in American Legion Baseball play. O'Donnell helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with a triple and driving in three runs at the place. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Superintendent Joseph Curtis insists that the district's $200,000 budget cut will not reduce additional positions. "We all feel strongly, and I'm sure that the [School Committee] does as well, that we will not reduce any additional staff members as a result of that $200,000 reduction," he said on Wednesday. Update on June 14, 2024 at 4:15 pm: According to the District Attorney's Office, Jeremy Stanton, age 38 of Pittsfield, was charged with murder on June 12, 2024. Stanton allegedly murdered Ryan P. Babcock on June 11. Stanton was arrested on the evening of June 12 in a home in Worthington on unrelated outstanding warrants for violation of probation and assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and vandalizing property from an incident on June 2. The defense entered a plea of not guilty. The defendant is being held without the right bail.
