 PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Cam Sievers’ 11 strikeouts and a strong third inning at the plate Saturday led Dalton-Hinsdale past Great Barrington, 8-1, in the first game of the Donald Gleason 12-year-old Little League District 1 Tournament. Sievers, Nate Dearborn and Sully Duquette combined on a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts as DH started pool play with a 1-0 record. On Sunday at noon, Dalton-Hinsdale will be tested by Pittsfield, which took a 16-1 decision over Great Barrington in the other pool play matchup.  DALTON, Mass. — Fire Chief Christian Tobin has earned his accreditation through the state Fire Service Commission. The announcement was made during a Board of Water Commissioners meeting in April. "It is not an easy thing to do in the short time that he has been here, and the district is appreciative of everything he has done thus far for the department," to Prudential Committee Chair Daniel Filiault said during the meeting.  PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two Berkshire beaches are closed for swimming ahead of the Fourth of July weekend.
Lulu Pond in the Pittsfield State Forest had a bacterial exceedance and Lake Mansfield in Great Barrington is closed for "other" reasons. While the waterbodies are closed for swimming, other recreational activities are allowed. On June 24, Lulu Pond had 488.4 colony-forming units per 100 milliliters of Enterococci bacteria, dramatically higher than the threshold of 61 cfu/100 ml for freshwater beaches. The number had risen from 2 cfu/100 ml on June 17, closing the beach.
On July 1, the pond had 204.6 cfu/100 ml.

 LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — The Finance Committee held its first meeting of the fiscal year and elected two newcomers as its leaders.
Lyndon Moors was voted as chair and David Parks was voted vice chair on Monday. During the town's 2024 election on June 18, Moors was elected for a two-year term and Parks for a three-year term.
Town Administrator Gina Dario observed that there are "fresh eyes coming into the budget process."
"In my time as town administrator and sort of engaging with other towns, every finance committee, like every town administration, has a slightly unique way of operating," she said.

The parade had floats, bands and fire engines. See more photos here. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The downtown corridor was alive with red, white, and blue as thousands gathered to watch the Fourth of July parade.
Mayor Peter Marchetti pointed to the pleasant Thursday morning weather — overcast with bouts of sunshine and in the 70s. The 2024 parade, themed "Red, White, Blue and YOU," featured more than 160 units.
"It is a really nice day in Pittsfield and the weather looks like it's going to cooperate and we're ready for a parade," he said before the 10 a.m. kickoff.
It is a bittersweet day for Marchetti, as he will be stepping down as parade leader
