PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Maria E. Longo, 93, formerly of Pittsfield and Dalton, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Olathe-Health Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.
She was born in Montecchio, Province of Vicenza, Italy, on June 3, 1924 a daughter of the late Giacomo and Anna (Priante) Tecchio. Maria attended schools in Italy and came to the United States and to Pittsfield in 1947 and then in 1971 moved to Dalton.
She was employed by the Crane family in Dalton as a cook for 10 years and then for 20 years was the proprietor of Tamarak rooming house, located at 315 Dalton Division Road in Dalton; she retired in 1992. In 2014 she moved to Kansas. Maria was a communicant of the former All Soul’s Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She was a former member of the senior center, Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge #564 and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Maria was the widow of Joseph Longo, who died on June 15, 1987; they were married on December 7, 1946.
Survivors include one son, Gino G. Longo of Pittsfield; two daughters, Linda E. Egana of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Mary Matera-Longo and her husband Joseph Matera of Overland Park, Kansas, with whom Maria lived with; four grandchildren, Eric, Kristin, Mark and Sylvia; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Matthew and Noah.
Maria was predeceased by two sisters, Rosa Borghero and Giuseppina Mezzari; and one brother, Adelino Tecchio.
Funeral notice: Services will take place Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 414 North St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Monsignor Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lee, Mass. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, August 22, 2017, from 6-8 p.m.
