Paul R. Sherman, 79

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Paul R. Sherman, 79, of 140 Melbourne Road, Pittsfield, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Melbourne Place surrounded in the loving presence of his family.
He was born in Somerville, Mass., on October 28, 1937, a son of the late Edwin and Laura (Armstrong) Sherman. Paul attended schools in Savoy and Adams and was employed for 31 years by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, retiring in 1996 as a maintenance foreman. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Navy and was a life member of V.F.W. Post 448 of Pittsfield.
Paul was a devoted member and former chairman of the Massachusetts Turnpike Credit Union and a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a devoted pet owner, an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, playing his guitar and singing country music.
His wife, the former Nancy Carol Morelli, died on November 3, 2014; they were married on April 8, 1961.
Survivors include his son, Daniel Sherman and his wife Laura of Pittsfield; two daughters, Julie Clukey and her partner Kenneth of Pittsfield and Amy Rayner and her husband Mark of Pittsfield; and his five grandchildren, Daniel, Katrina, Sarah, Kevin and David, who were all the loves of his life.
Funeral notice: Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service for Paul on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 9 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. His family would like to extend their thanks to the CNAs at Melbourne Place, HospiceCare in the Berkshires and Pam and Laura and their team of caregivers.
