PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Mrs. Mary Agnes (Mik) Maciora, 96, formerly of 89 Palomino Drive, Pittsfield, Mass., passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, Mass.
Mary was born on November 17, 1921, in Meriden, Conn., and was the daughter of the late Ignacy Michal and Helena E. (Bykowska) Mik. Her parents were natives of Wisniowa, Nockowa and Rozanka, Niewodna, Rzeszow province southeastern Poland, then under Austrian rule.
Mary was a 1939 graduate of Meriden High School, Meriden, Conn., and a 1940 graduate of Laurel College, Meriden. Mrs. Maciora resided Cheshire, Conn., where she won first prize blue ribbons for her tatting and flower arrangements at the Cheshire Fair. She was a Boston Bruins fan. On August 16, 1974, she relocated to Pittsfield from Smithtown, N.Y., with her family.
She married Joseph G. Maciora on Easter Monday, April 22, 1946, at St. Stanislaus RC Church, Meriden, Conn. He died on July 18, 1998, after 52 years of marriage.
Mary was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Social Services from 1978, until her retirement on December 31, 1989. She loved listening to classical music, especially Handel, Chopin, and Strauss’ waltzes, knitting, gardening, cooking, and reading spiritual and cook books. She travelled the east coast of the USA, Detroit, Mich., Niagara Falls, and to Montreal and Ottawa, Canada.
Survivors include her son, Joseph G. V. Maciora of Pittsfield; and her granddaughter, Susan M. Jacobs.
She was predeceased by her daughter Mary G. Maciora-Jacobs, who passed away on August 26, 2017. She was the last of ten children. Her sisters were: Theresa E. Dembiczak, Magdalen M. Massaro, Katherine M. Astramowitz, Rose M. Slisz, and Czeslawa Mik, and her brothers were: John J. Mik Sr., Ignacy Mik Jr., Felix J. Mik and Joseph A. Mik.
She also leaves a sister-in-law, Helen J. Mik of Calidfornia; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral notice: Services for Mary Agnes Maciora will take place Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. from the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 414 North St., Pittsfield with Rev. Monsignor Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
