PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Vivian Ruth Hopper, 93, fondly known as Shorty, passed away peacefully March 31, 2018, in her home in Pittsfield, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 18, 1924, in Pittsfield. She was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Ida Monteur Jerome. She graduated from Lenox High School in 1942.
Vivian married Albert Hopper (Stretch) on June 7, 1947. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year. She was a communicant of St. Mark Church. Viv worked at General Electric and Optical Publishing in the early years, but what gave her the most joy was her family. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and rooting for her Red Sox as well as feeding and watching her birds.
Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Pat Myers (Tom), Pam Harris (Jim) and Chris Squires (Buzzy); her sisters, Dorothy Leibinger, Idamae Scaramuzzi, Joan Reidy, Mary Roy and Barbara Thomson; a brother, Bill Jerome; her grandchildren Eric, Neil and Chad Myers, Tammy Gerwaski, Cliff and Russell Harris Sr., and Jason and Jeremy Squires; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She leaves her best friend Pat Basset and the girls she played cards with as well as her dear neighbors Sheila, Bobby and Goober and her fabulous neighborhood.
She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Hamberg; and her brothers Bobby, Dickie and Eddie Jerome.
Her family wants to give a special thanks to all the staff at Berkshire Place, BMC, and Hospice Services of Western Mass.
Funeral notice: Funeral services for Vivian will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark Church with Rev. David E. Aufiero, Pastor, and Msgr. Michael Shershanovich officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice Services of Western Mass or Moments House.
