PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Anthony Joseph Pivero, 79, of 236 Hubbard Ave., Pittsfield, Mass., passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was born in Pittsfield on December 4, 1938, a son of the late Orlando C. and Antoinette (Russo) Pivero. He attended Pittsfield Schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1957. Anthony received an associate degree in music from Miami Dade Junior College, a degree in music from the University of Miami in Miami, Fla., and also graduated from the P.G.A. school for golf in Clearwater, Fla.
He was the proprietor of Midas Muffler in Malden, Mass., for seven years, former head golf professional at Skyline Country Club in Lanesborough for four years, at Egremont Country Club in Egremont for seven years, former assistant professional at Oak Bourne Country Club in Lafayette, La., former head professional and greens superintendent at New Iberia Country Club in New Iberia, La., and the proprietor of the Cap Center in Pittsfield since 1977, located first on Wahconah Street and then Hubbard Avenue.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Dalton and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1957 to 1960. His interests included enjoying music, traveling, cooking, fly fishing and golf.
His wife, the former Ann M. Albano, passed away on January 13, 2004; they were married on September 5, 1992.
Survivors include his four sons, Michael J. Pivero of Mansfield, Mass., Stephen Pivero of Malden, Mass., Anthony Pivero of Goffstown, N.H., and Michael Pivero of Newton, N.H.; one daughter, Diane Albano of Springfield, Mass.; two sisters, Roseann F. Kudlate of Pittsfield and Tina M. Ferrell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins; and daughter-in-law, Carla Pivero of Lynnfield, Mass. He also leaves behind his best friend, Patricia Sanginetti.
He was predeceased by one brother, Ralph O. Pivero.
Funeral notice: Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 will be Sunday, September 9, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 10, 2018, at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Dalton, Mass., with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor, officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
