Barbara A. Brophy, 76

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Barbara Ann Hespelein Brophy, 76, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away December 7, 2018, at Mount Carmel Care in Lenox.



She was born in Pittsfield on June 13, 1942, the daughter of the late George E. Hespelein Sr. and Irene B. (Hood) Hespelein. She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1960 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mrs. Brophy was employed as a customer service representative in the Patient Accounting Department at Berkshire Health Systems, retiring in 2009 after 10 years there. She had also waitressed for many years at the ITAM Lodge, GEAA and the VFW.



She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts and crafts shows, and relaxing with her loving dog, Sophie. She took pleasure in spending Saturdays shopping and having dinner with her sister, Irene.



Mrs. Brophy married David F. Brophy on May 1, 1994, and the couple moved to Bradenton, Fla.; he died on October 17, 1996, aand she returned to Pittsfield after his death.



Mrs. Brophy is survived by her two sons, Ronald C. Weslowski Jr. and his fiance Darlene Duval of North Adams and Daniel P. Weslowski of Pittsfield; two granddaughters, Amy Lyn Weslowski of Pittsfield and Danielle Weslowski of Pittsfield; two brothers, Richard and his wife Patricia Hespelein of Pittsfield and Charles and his wife Joyce Hespelein of Berlin, N.Y.; one sister, Irene F. Hebert of Pittsfield; as well as many nieces and nephews; her former daughter-in-law, Debra Weslowski; and also her beloved dog, Sophie.



She is predeceased by her brothers, George Hespelein Jr. and Jack Hespelein; and her sisters Marion Kelly and Jean M. Bissaillon.



Funeral notice: Funeral services for Barbara A. Brophy will be held Thursday, December 13, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home, Pittsfield, with visiting hours prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dalton. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
