Alexander DiNicola, 98

January 12, 2019


PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Alexander DiNicola, 98, formerly of Pittsfield, Mass., passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Craneville Place of Dalton.  



He was born in Sambuceto, Province of Chieti, Italy, on November 9, 1920, a son of the late Adamo and Rosina (DiNicola) DiNicola. He attended schools in Italy and Pittsfield and came to the United States in 1930. Alexander was employed by the General Electric Company for 41 years and retired from the Ordnance Dept. in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II and served overseas in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 and was a Prisoner of War in Germany.



He was a communicant of the former Mt. Carmel Church and a member of its Holy Name Society and was very active in church events, including the lawn party and bazaars. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 of Pittsfield, a life member of Father William Contino Italian American War Veterans Post 75 of Pittsfield, a life member of the P.O.W. Association of Western MA and a member of the Italian American Club of Pittsfield, United Commercial Travelers, Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge No. 564 of Pittsfield, General Electric Quarter Century Club and Pensioners Club. 



He enjoyed bocce, golf and traveling.



His wife, the former Geraldine V. Polidoro, passed away August 19, 2010; they were married on July 5, 1947, at Mt. Carmel Church. 



Survivors include his two daughters, Lorraine P. Faucher of Cheshire and Celeste L. Morton and her husband Kim of Pittsfield; four grandsons, Marc, Stephen and Christopher Faucher, and Michael Morton; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. 



He was predeceased by his brother, Valentino DiNicola; and his son-in-law, Mark Faucher.



The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Craneville Place of Dalton and the Hospice staff at HospiceCare in the Berkshires for their loving care and support.



Funeral notice: Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 16, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Services will be Thursday, January 17, 2019, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 489 Main St., Dalton, Mass., with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor, officiating. 



Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for Craneville Place of Dalton or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
