Our beloved, “Nani”, Lena N. Scapin of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, September 4, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 11, 1931 to Fred Zullo and Mary C. Gianotti in Pittsfield MA and attended Pittsfield schools. She married Eugene J. Scapin Sr. on February 7, 1953 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield.
Lena was a very strong person and endured several illnesses during her later life. She was a homemaker, although she worked several jobs, including at the Pocketbook Factory and at Chemex Corp. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, on November 9, 2008, her brothers (Anthony, Alfred, John) and sisters (Madeline, Anna, Emily, Mary), and son-in-law, John Schultheis on January 14, 2017.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and later, St. Joseph Church. She was a former member of the Pittsfield ITAM Lodge. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, gardening, Bingo, trips to casinos and Cape Cod. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She leaves three sons, Eugene Jr. (Bernadette) of Pittsfield, Richard (Kathy) of South Carolina and David (Kathy) of Florida; and a daughter, Susan Schultheis of Pittsfield. She also leaves her brother, Herbert, of Pittsfield. She leaves her grandchildren, Nicole (Angel) Martinez, Jennifer Schultheis, Jason Schultheis, Ryan Scapin, Michelle (Dee) Scapin, Jennifer (Nick) Glum and Shaun Scapin. She leaves five great grandchildren: Gabriel, Levi and Samuel Schultheis, and Gianna and Scarlet Glum.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Berkshire Place, the 5th floor East and Palliative Care Team of Berkshire Medical Center for their excellent and compassionate care.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Mass for Lena N. Scapin will be Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 9 am at St. Joseph Church. Burial following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, the family requests that masks be worn during the services.
