Wayne Upton Bidwell, 85, of 245 Cheshire Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in St. Albans, Vt., on Jan. 29, 1919, son of Ernest and Katie Loveland Bidwell, he attended schools in Athol and was a graduate of Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, where he earned a degree in history and English.
He had resided in Pittsfield for 36 years.
Mr. Bidwell was employed as a medical aide at the former Dalton Nursing Home for several years. He also had worked as a lithographer at Eusey Press in Leominster for 10 years.
He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lanesboro and was very involved in its educational program and school.
He and his wife, the former Evelyn Wirth, were married in 1951.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ruth Suriner of Pittsfield; two sons, Dr. Harvey W. Bidwell of Boston and Glenn E. Bidwell of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Dewey W. Bidwell of Athol, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Wayne U. Bidwell, who died March 19, 2004, will be Sunday, March 28, at noon at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Route 8, Lanesboro. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Berkshire Hills Church School in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling the arrangements.
