Joseph L. Franklin Sr., 58, of 11 Wallace Place died Thursday evening at home.
Born in Ashley Falls on May 27, 1946, son of Bertha Kittle Franklin of Great Barrington and the late Frank M. Franklin, he was educated in Sheffield schools.
Mr. Franklin was employed as a mechanic and auto body technician for auto body shops throughout Berkshire County for 30 years, including DeFino Auto Body in Egremont, retiring in 1993. He also worked at GE at one time.
He was a former member of Trinity Methodist Church in Ashley Falls and enjoyed fishing and rebuilding and restoring cars.
Besides his mother, he leaves his companion, Elaine S. Borden of Pittsfield, three sons, Joseph L. Franklin Jr. of Shirley, John Franklin of California and Matthew Warner of Westfield; a daughter, Doris "Bea" Morris of Springfield; a brother, Frederick Franklin of Great Barrington; two sisters, Jane Rice and Gladys I. Grady, both of Ashley Falls, and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Joseph L. Franklin Sr., 58, of Pittsfield, who died Nov. 25, 2004, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 1 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, conducted by the Rev. Charles Young, chaplain for HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
Burial of Mr. Franklin's cremains will be private. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 11:20 to 1, prior to the service. Joe also leaves his loving companion, Elaine S. Borden, and his faithful dog, "Frankie."
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield 01201.
