Francis J. Thornton, 88, of 70 Cherry St. died Dec. 28 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 14, 1916, son of Daniel J. and Mary McNiece Thornton, he was educated in local schools.
Mr. Thornton was employed by GE as an anodizer, retiring in 1982 after 17 years of service.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the GE Pensioners' Club, and a New York Yankees fan.
His wife, the former Mildred E. Burnell, whom he married in 1945, died Feb. 16, 1986.
He leaves a son, Francis J. Thornton Jr. of Pittsfield; a brother, John Thornton of Pittsfield, and a sister, Mary Davis of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Francis J. Thornton, 88, was called safely home on Dec. 28, 2004. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow, Jan. 4, at 11 by the Rev. William D. Furey. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tomorrow from 10 until the time of the service at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's fund in care of the funeral home.
