William Robert Petell

William Robert Petell, 87, of Melbourne Place, formerly of 39 South John St., died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

He had resided at Melbourne Place for four years.

Born in Pittsfield on May 19, 1918, son of Isaac and Emma Winnard Petell, he was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Mr. Petell was employed by the former Eaton Paper Co. and its successor, Sheaffer-Eaton Co., for 45 years, retiring in 1983 as a printer.

He was a communicant and active member of St. Mark's Church.

He enjoyed playing golf.

His wife, the former Norma Salatino, whom he married Sept. 4, 1948, died Feb. 28, 1989.

He leaves a daughter, Jean M. Petell of Pittsfield; three sons, John A. Petell of Great Barrington, William F. Petell of Slingerlands, N.Y., and Daniel M. Petell of Acworth, Ga., and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William R. Petell, who died April 28, 2006, will be Tuesday at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mark's Church celebrated by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Church Memorial Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Petell is lovingly survived by his grandchildren, Amanda, Mark, Stephanie and Tony Petell.
