PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Fire Department put out a fire in a dining room early Thursday morning on First Street.
The report came in at 12:45 a.m. of a fire at 160 First St. with possible trapped occupants.
Two firefighter incurred minor injuries but no civilian injuries were reported.
Firefighters found smoke showing when they arrived to the multi-family building at the corner of Adams Street and assisted in evacuating the building. There are eight units apartments in the century-old structure. The fire was on the first floor in the 160 First St. unit.
An additional engine was requested at the scene for the Rapid Intervention Team.
Upon entry on into the unit, crews found heavy fire in the dining area and attached closet. The dining area and closet suffered heavy damage. The building suffered smoke, fire and water damage in 160 First St. and smoke damage in 162 First St.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and all companies assisted in overhaul. Crews remained on scene for approximately four hours.
Fire appeared accidental in nature, but is still under investigation by members of the Fire Investigation Unit.
