Dryer Fire Causes Damage to Pittsfield Home

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Firefighters determined a dryer caused a fire in a Preston Ave. home Sunday.
 
There were no injuries, and there was smoke and fire damage on the home's first floor. The fire was deemed to be accidental.
 
Firefighters responded to a reported fire in the basement of a Preston Ave. home. Upon arrival, the Engine 6 crew found heavy smoke coming from the basement and first floor of the home.
 
They found heavy fire in the basement near the washer and dryer that had spread across the ceilings and walls.
 
Firefighters worked for about 40 minutes to get the fire under control.   
 
The occupants were assisted by members of the Red Cross.
